FAQ for 400G Transceivers and Cables
What are the advantages of using 400G optical transceivers and cables?
1. Greater transmission density per RU: from a single port rate 100G to 400G, the transmission bandwidth per RU from 3.2–3.6T to 12.8–14.4T/RU.
2. Greater connection density with servers: support 400G to 4X100G connections.
3. Reduce the complexity of cabling: with the same bandwidth, cabling only need a quarter of 100G.
4 .Lower power consumption: 400G transceiver power consumption is less than four 100G module power consumption, reducing operation and maintenance costs.
What are the package forms of 400G optical transceivers and cables?
1. OSFP(Octal Small Form-factor Pluggable): Octal means 8, because the electrical interface of an OSFP module consists of eight electrical channels of 50G.
2. QSFP-DD(Octal Small Form-factor Pluggable-Double Density): QSFP-DD looks similar to QSFP, increasing the number of connecting fingers from four (QSFP) to eight (QSFP-DD) .
Can I use QSFP-DD transceivers on OSFP ports?
OSFP and QSFP-DD are two completely different package forms. You cannot use QSFP-DD optical transceivers on OSFP ports, just as the optical transceiver of OSFP can not be used on the QSFP-DD port.
Can a 400G link have QSFP-DD on one side and OSFP on the other?
Yes, OSFP and QSFP-DD are just the physical appearance of the transceivers, as long as the transceivers are of the same type (e.g. both are 400G-DR4, or both are 400G-FR4), OSFP and QSFPDD can interoperate with each other.
Can QSFP transceivers be used in QSFP-DD ports?
Yes, QSFP transceivers can be used directly on QSFP-DD ports. You need to pay attention to configure the port rate when using it.
What types of 400G transceivers are available from NADDOD?

What is the maximum transmission distance of 400G transceivers?
NADDOD can provide 400G transceivers with a maximum transmission distance of 40km (400G ER4/ER8).
What is the maximum power consumption of 400G transceivers?
The maximum power consumption of 400G transceivers provided by NADDOD is 14W (400G ER8), there is also a low power consumption ER4 transceiver in 40KM with 12W power consumption.
What are the interface types of 400G transceivers?
1. Duplex LC interface
Similar to 100G-CWDM4, 40G-LR4 and other transceivers, LR4, ER4, ER8 and other transceivers use duplex LC interfaces.
2. DUAL LC MPO12 interface (APC)
Similar to 100G-SR4, TX, RX 100G-PSM4 and other transceivers, 400G-DR4, XDR4, PLR4 and other transceivers use MPO12 interface.
3. MPO16 interface (APC)
The 400G-FR4/400G-SR8 uses eight fibers for transmitting and eight fibers for receiving, for a total of 16 fibers to complete the 400G transmission.
4. 2xCS interface
400G-2FR4, using two pairs of single-mode fiber to complete the 400G transmission.
